I'm freaked out

So what's the worst thing that could happen to a runner who is less than two weeks away from their marathon? Ok, aside from injury. I GOT SICK! Ugh, so bad. Timeline: Sunday - run 21.25 miles (last run before taper begins) Monday - off, officially tapering. Yay!! Tuesday - light speedwork Wednesday - off, wake up feeling a little stuffy. get more stuffy as the day continues. go to dinner with my parents. more stuffy. pass out in truck on drive home due to exhaustion. from what, I don't know...(I wasn't driving:) Wednesday night - sleep horribly. off and on all night. getting worse by the minute. throat killing me, sinus pressure is making me want to cry Thursday - stayed home from school. drugged up and forced myself to sleep all day. Friday - feeling well enough to get out of bed Saturday - 1 hour easy run. HR was flying high. Took a lot of effort. Sunday - feeling better, but still stuffy. After yesterdays 'easy' run I'm stressing big time about the marathon HELP!!

Take care of yourself, lay low, you still have some time. Hopefully you will regain strength before the race. I think you will. Sending good thoughts.

Oh no! That is so something that would happen to me. You have some time though, just try to rest A LOT. I'm sure you'll be okay for the race!

That stinks!! Glad you are starting to feel a little better. Don't stress, you will be fine by next week. Just make sure and take a few extra days off if you feel like you need it!

Listen to your body..remember you are tapering. So just lay low and let your body heal :) You're race is till a week away....plenty of time!!

It's like getting sick as soon as the finals are over...All the tough training is gone and the body is saying, I am forcing you to rest. No worries, rest up, eat well, and you are going to be well by the time marathon day comes. There are no fitness gains to be made now, so the timing is not that bad (although we all hate getting sick). HYang in there, AM

Rest, fluids, and vit C! I'm sure you will be good to go by Sunday but take it easy this week!

Ugh! Don't let it worry you...sometimes these things give our bodies some unplanned rest and down time. Sleep, sleep, sleep! Hope you feel like new tomorrow morning when you wake up!

Hey- at least you don't have a major long run this week! Get plenty of sleep, and you'll probs be feeling fine in a couple of days. But I'll totally send a load of good karma and all your way anyway :)

Relax. You and your body will be ready on race day. Drink lots of fluids, get lots of rest and don't worry about running. Race day your legs will be rested and raring to go! You won't lose cardio in a week. You'll just be extra rested.

Lay low, no worries, your work is done. It won't help you mentally but you're there already, your base and hardwork. I often get sick right before or right after. Adrenaline is AMAZING, it will get you through, I have no doubt. You may get the funk again afterward when your body lets down. No worries. Race well, rest up, you WILL be fine. Oh, if it's above the chest, go for little runs/walks if it's IN the chest, rest is best.

hydrate hydrate hydrate!!!!! I think this is just a blip on the radar, you've done weeks and weeks of training, you're still strong. You just needed a bit of rest before the big game.....hope you're better soon!

Take it easy and rest up. You put all the hard work in already.

Actually it was Lexington, MA- though Kentucky would be cool haha. How are you feeling today? I hope 100 times better!

Oh crap girl!! I have been so worried that I will get sick with all of this damn swine flu that's going around. I am sorry that you are sick. Take advantage of the taper and relax. Take zinc tabs and Zycam. Really works well. Hang in there; you'll be back to normal in no time!

While I'm no doctor I'd say skip any and all workouts until you feel 100%. The money is in the bank at this point and you can do the marathon. Anything athletic might aggravate the cold/flu.

Keep us posted. You'll be fine by race day b/c you're listening to your body.

Oh, and SLEEP every second you can.

Are you feeling better? The high density ones just feel harder than the other ones. I can tell the difference between the one he told me to get and the one I currently have. I bought the new one on amazon this morning. I'll post a link as soon as I know it's good :)
