Just when I thought I was caught up

This week has been a zoo. My hubby started laying our hardwood flooring a couple of days before school started. My priority was getting the office done. I love my office. In fact, I call it 'command central.' School started Tuesday and without an office, my life was a mess. I am not flexible when it comes to my organization skills. I can't just move my studies to another room. It's important to me that I have my office tools, my desk, my computer, my calculator etc...I was sans Internet for about 4 days and was surprised to see the Internet carried on like I never left. So I was back to square one yesterday. Finally caught up on blog reading and now I have to do another quick recap for the week.
4 weeks to Go (a.k.a Week 13 of Project Suck It):
Tuesday: I was still very sore from my 20 miler and I was starting to get a little freaked out. My IT band was VERY tight. So tight and in fact, I could no longer use the foam roller. I'm not sure if this was a result of rolling it to death or what but it was too much pain for me. I talked to coach about it and we altered the workout to a very light recovery run.
I also bought a new pair of compression shorts. They were expensive, but I loved them. They helped keep that tender area sucked in which was especially uncomfortable going downhill.
5 x Grandview Forest hill loops (400 meter loop)
2:25, 2:30, 2:32, 2:34, 2:34
Thursday: I was treating this as my long run day. I had a major bad ass workout scheduled, but considering my sore legs - we moved it to Sunday to give my legs more rest time. My legs were dead by the time the 1600 came around!
long slooow 4 mi warmup
10 different plyometrics
2 x Grandview Forest hill loops
1 x 1600: 9:41
1 x 800: 4:51
Total: 8.19 miles
Friday: 3 mile Recovery run.
I got a "Quick Release" massage. Ever heard of this? It was recommended by an experienced marathon runner I run with. It was interesting. The jury is still out if I like it. I guess we'll see how my muscles react to the workout Sunday. I am definitely sore today. Trying to drink lots of water to flush the lactic acid out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow - 3 x 5k, 1 x 3200
Holy crap!!! Three 5k's. I'm nervous! Hopefully those recovery shorts will make me faster....
Those shorts are looking hawt, bet it keeps all your junk from jiggling too..not that you have a lot of junk but MOST of us have at least a little. I need a full report on those bad boys. Nice workouts, BTW.
Hope that IT band is better for tomorrow!
I have compression socks and compression tights for running. I LOVE THEM ALL! Shorts are next on my list. I really believe they work and the socks help with recovery. Drink lots of water, good luck for tomorrow!
"and was surprised to see the Internet carried on like I never left."
ain't that the truth! I felt the same way :).
Good luck on your workout tomorrow! I really empathize with you on the IT band problems-I suffer chronically from the same thing. Want to know what has worked for me? Well I hope so cuz I'm gonna tell you. I bought two pairs of running shoes; one pair I wear for my weekly shorter runs and the other pair I wear for my long runs on the weekend. I also use the foam roller and get massages once a month. That quick release things sounds like it might help too. Anyhoots, the combo of those things has kept me healthy (knock wood) so it's worth a try!
P.S. I totally hear ya on needing your office space. I can't get anything done if there is clutter afoot.
P.P.S. Boy, after that long hot mess of a comment I bet you wish my computer still had a virus ;)
Nice shorts! Yes, let us know how you feel about them! Good luck with yoru workout tomorrow - that is a killer!
I did experience a few internet 'blips' for a few days - and now we know the reason why :)
PS - put the apple down.
Is the quick release the same as the active release techniques? Hope it works for you.
I've liked the Galloway since it breaks up my run into manageable niblets. It helps me get out the door when I'm not feeling like tackling the big distance. I also figure I'm supposed to run these LSDs sloooowly anyway, so more time on my feet can't hurt. I think I like the 1mi run/1min recovery better than the 9min run/1min recovery though.
Very nice job getting that 20-miler done in bad conditions. Hope you're recovering well and good luck on those 5ks! What a hard workout!
Let me know how you like those shorts; I've been thinking about picking some up. I have bike shorts, but I wasn't sure how the two were different.
I hope that your workout went good; I'm sure that you will let us know!
Yes! The next time that i log onto FB, I will look you up! My married name on there is Tara McLain, so if you see that name, it's me! Although I never update my status or upload pics. I'm so bad about doing that. I have enough trouble keeping up with the blog!
You've been kicking serious butt in your training. You're going to do to great at the marathon.
