friday mind dump

Who doesn’t like a post with bullet points?

  • I am taking a digital photography class. It’s one night a week for 5 weeks and I’ve only been to one class, but so far it’s cool. Aperture and shutter speed are finicky bitches. In the next four weeks I would love to know my camera inside and out. More importantly, I would like to be better at photo composition and taking extraordinary pictures in ordinary settings. I hope you guys will reap the benefits of the class.

  • The class is mostly baby boomers (which is nice considering I just spent the last several years in undergrad school with a bunch on snotty nosed kids) and when the teacher asked what we wanted to get out of the class a lady said, “I would like to learn how to post pictures to facebook.”

  • I’m also learning how to sew. I bought this little gem. It’s supposed to be a great beginner’s machine. How did I not learn how to sew until now? My grandmother sewed and my mother used to make my sister and I’s clothes. Matching outfits, btw. A couple of months ago, I met a lady at the running store who was a quilter. She is going to teach me how to make curtains next Wednesday.

  • In a couple of hours I’m meeting up with the dirty girls for another trail run. I’ve become the POC for walk/runners. I’m glad I can help guide people in their journey to become more fit, but does it make me a terrible person that I’m disappointed I’ll have to walk the whole loop this morning?

  • Lastly, and the most exciting! I’m going on a yoga retreat! Beyond excited. This has been a really rough couple of months emotionally. Going long periods of time without my husband is hard, but this trip I had to deal with a personal tragedy. Alone. I can’t express……..The retreat just a couple of short weeks away and then the following week he will be home. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. I NEED THIS.

I am so sorry that you've had to go through your personal tragedy alone. I don't even know how I would get through a week without having my husband to be a sounding board, comforter & drink maker when my work (i.e. non-tragedy) life gets tough. You are so strong! I hope that the yoga class brings some calm to your life & thoughts. I, too, would be disappointed if I had to walk the loop - I think that's natural.

Oh, that yoga retreat seems perfect. It sounds relaxing and rejuvenating and I hope it brings you everything you need until your husband gets home...BIG hugs and so sorry that you had to weather things alone.

your post calls for a bullet point response!

-I am so jealous of your yoga retreat. I have one all picked out that I want to go to too, just lacking the cash. I can't wait to read all about yours!

-You are not a bad person for being bummed you can't run. That sucks.

-I am excited to see the products of this photography class. I barely know how to turn my camera on or find the zoom button, let alone know what those really big words you said were.

-Sorry for your personal tragedy. If I lived near you I'd bring over a bottle of wine, lots of ice cream and really bad 80s flick.

-Love the new blog look!

Yoga retreat? What a great idea - and much needed. I'm sorry you're going through a hard time. I wish we were neighbors. :(

Our mom sewed all of our clothes too and KK and I wore matching outfits too! And I recently bought a sewing machine too! So fun! We were meant to be friends.

Hang in there......virtual hugs coming your way.

I know nothing about posts with bullet points-ha!

Thanks for the comment and the compliment on my family!

My daughter just got a sewing machine for her 13th birthday from my mom. I am totally clueless at reading instructions and hoping home ec will teach her how to use it. I could use some new curtains...

Yoga retreat sounds awesome and just what you need!

I think I'm in love with the cheesiness of that sewing machine box.
