Rants & Raves...and workouts

What I am about to say might alienate some of you and drive you away from reading my blog, but just know this - I have listened to a shitload of comments that I either consider ignorant or that I just disagree with regarding politics, and though most of it makes my skin crawl, I respect you and your opinions enough to keep following. As a staunch individualist I disagree with the majority of America right now on most issues, and I despise DESPISE people who are head-over-heels in love with Obama (Obomunists), or any politician for that matter. I don't think it's a coincidence that the drivers holding up traffic usually have Obama bumper stickers -- bottom line, I think people who trust politicians are idiots. Contrary to popular believe, the sun does not shine out of his ass. Ok, if your still with me...it's sad when people die. MJ, Farrah, Ed -- whatever. Unless you won the publishers clearing house, chances are none of these people changed our lives in any noteworthy way. It's crazy the headlines are saturated with this nonsense that in no way shape or form will really affect America. It's always a little crazy when someone we "know" passes, but meanwhile the socialist in office are passing some pretty crazy shit RIGHT NOW. Hello -- does anybody know the House is voting on Cap and Trade today? Ok, this is not a politico blog, and I certainly don't want to alienate any of my followers. It just sickens me that the mainstream is so obsessed with pointless shit and that there is no debate in America anymore. And yes, I am boycotting ABC. Which is a shame because I was really into the Bachelorette. End Rant

Onto the important stuff. Last night I did hill repeats. Pretty good stuff Another circuit workout. 5 hill repeats and in between each one we did a set of push ups, lunges, squats, some other thing that I don't know the name of (just like the other workout). Interestingly, the hill repeat after the sets of push ups was by far the hardest. Which was odd, because it didn't involve any leg strength. I guess it illustrates how much your core is engaged while running. My heart rate maxed out at 192. I think if there was a competition and whoever had the highest rate rate won - I would easily take that title. What is up with that? Total: 3 miles (but it felt like 10!)/1351 ft elevation gain Swim this morning: 200 w/up 600 free 200 kick (no fins) 200 IM 200 pull 200 free ~ 400 fly kick (w/fins)* *I have decided I am going to learn how to butterfly. I guess I'll start by watching you tube vids. Any helpful tips?

I'm still with ya! :) Hill workout sounds tough! Might try that one! No tips on how to do the butterfly, I don't have a clue myself!

I agree "we" as americans are up to date on all the latest and greatest in hollywood (movie, music industry) however we are clueless when it comes to the important things like government, helath care etc.

Serious kickass workout girl. I can't help on the butterfly that is the one stroke I never learned...

I hear on the saturation of silly news. The fact that not even 4 hours after MJ had died yesterday they already had a primetime special on ABC is absolutely ridiculous. The non stop coverage and not reporting anything new is also ridiculous!

I'm starting to think we are long lost sisters. I feel the exact way about everything! It seems like I'm the only one here in GA that feels this way! Have a great weekend!

The media is evil. In my line of work I have to fight every day the misconceptions that they are endorsing. At the same time, I think the relationshio is bidirectional - media feeds peoples' interests and viceversa. Some have vicariously lived their lives through the 3 celebrities who recently died. They do deserve some media attention, but certainly not as much as they have gotten. The good news is that we can chose what to read and listen to.
Your workouts are great. I am jealous of your swimming. I am s breast stroke gal who would love to free style... Maybe this summer.

We obviously come from very different political viewpoints, but that's what makes the US so interesting, right?

I think it's too bad that the death of Michael Jackson (who was a fantastic entertainer before he got all creepy & his nose fell off) is moving REAL news off the front pages.

Great workout - hill repeats KILL me, and I've never tried to do anything between them. I guess I'll add those in next time. As for the swimming, I was thinking it might be time for me to learn another stroke. I really only know the one, and that's pretty limited!

I totally agree with you and yes, MJ was influential but he was also a child molester and Farrah was a cancer advocate and she totally is getting no coverage of what she did in her life. It's sad. Plus it's been like 15 years since michael has recorded anything... MEH! I totally agree with you, and of course I'm sticking by you! ha ha. :) Good luck on the workouts this weekend.

If a man on MY street had 12 year old boys sleeping over at his house, even IF it was 'innocent', he would have been hanged or arrested. Hollywood wouldn't TOUCH MJ after all that shiz and now his 'best friends' are out with their heartfelt sympathies...are you freakin kidding me? You haven't seen the guy since he turned white.

I work in politics and am surrounded by it daily. In my personal life, while I have very strong opinions, I'm usually silent in any debates among friends or family. One of the best things about our political system (albeit there are many things that need some changing) is the ability to have so many differing viwpoints!

I need to try out hill repeats on of these days. I'm in Holy Hills land and certainly have plenty of hills to choose from =).

I'm thinking about doing your killer track workout next week.

MJ was a kid touching freak. I don't wish people dead, but I agree, there are much more important things going on.

WTF, girl? You just totally burst my bubble :(

Good luck with the butterfly, chica! I still can't do a flip turn over here.

I agree with some of what has already been said: the media gets their direction from what consumers (viewers/readers) demand and sadly what is demanded in this country comes from pop culture and Hollywood. That is why it is improtant to get involved and seek out alternative forms of media if you really want to be "in the know." And that's what's great about the internet; whatever you want, you can find...If you don't agree with what ABC puts out then it is a good idea to protest their channel. It is part of the power we have as citizens of this country. Can you imagine living in Iran where basically any non-mainstream media outlet is silenced after something as big as a national election occurs? Keep protesting girl, it's what makes our country great.

Awesome hill workout. Can't believe you did the push ups and what not in between.

LOL on the "Which is a shame because I was really into the Bachelorette."

It's your blog and you can say what you want to - don't feel bad!

I can try to give you tips on butterfly....trying to think of how to do that thru the computer.....might need to think a bit more and then help. :)

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!
